Marathon funds 13 $1K+ scholarships to help workforce

RESERVE — The tuition at South Central Louisiana Technical College just got a whole lot more affordable for 13 students thanks to Marathon Petroleum Corporation.
The Corporation awarded $15,000 to the LCTCS Foundation through their University Funding Program. The donation fosters the partnership between Marathon and South Central Louisiana Technical College Reserve Campus in support of developing qualified personnel.
Community Relations Coordinator with Marathon’s Louisiana Refining Division Aspen Murphy directed that the funds be used for academic scholarships intended to provide financial assistance to students currently enrolled in the Process Technology Program.
Thirteen of SCLTC’s best PTEC students, all with at least a 3.0 GPA, received the one-time benefit at a recent awards ceremony.
Dean Penelope Freeman and Keith Hightower, Marathon’s human resources manager, opened the ceremony and welcomed the scholarship recipients. SCLTC Director Dr. Earl Meador was also in attendance.
Murphy and Hightower presented each recipient with a Certificate of Award.
Recipients include Jerome Alexander, Coy Amato, Justin Bailey, Scarlett Bowman, Jonathan Easley, Gerardo Hernandez, Kerry Henry, Fernando Lanza, Matthew Purcell, Brach Reichard, Jared Tate, Bryan Williford and Ramsey Zenon.
