Find your next book during ‘Tasting’

DESTREHAN — Despite having many entertainment options instantly available, reading is still a popular pastime.
Staff members at the St. Charles Parish Library want to help community members find their next new book at its Book Tasting from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 at the East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Dr. in Destrehan.
Readers can drop in anytime.
The event will give attendees a chance to sample some of the books available at the library and “take a taste” of reading materials that may be outside of their comfort zone.
“Just like with food, you don’t know if you will like something until you try it!” said Lauren Pitz, public relations librarian. “Librarians will be on hand to discuss book choices and make books recommendations based on your interests. We will have books available to take home, as well as a limited-edition reader’s journal for you to take notes about books that you want to read.”
The Book Tasting is being held in part to promote NoveList Plus, an online service that helps readers of all ages find books that match their reading levels and interests, as well as find read-alikes for their favorite titles and authors.
For more book recommendations, readers can sign up for the NextReads email newsletter service, which sends monthly emails with recommended titles only in the subject areas that subscribers want.
Readers can then request the book directly from the library.
NoveList Plus and NextReads can be found myscpl.org.
All St. Charles Parish Library events are free and open to the public. For more information about this event or these services, contact Pitz at 985-764-2366 or lauren.pitz@myscpl.org.
