RESERVE — Mother Nature tried to wash away the weekend’s slate of baseball and softball games, but some teams were just more persistent.

The East St. John Lady Wildcats celebrated Senior Day Friday with a 14-13 non-district win over McDonogh 35. One of the team’s two seniors, Ashley Jackson, went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Erykah Cemelien also was honored.

The baseball team’s scheduled game against East Jefferson was rained out.

Gearing up for this week’s big District 12-2A baseball showdowns, both Riverside Academy and St. Charles Catholic used Saturday as a tune-up.

Riverside defeated Albany 16-0, and St. Charles eked out a 1-0 victory over E.D. White.

Riverside scored seven runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning, which was enough for the win as Jacob Jensen pitched a seven-inning shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out two.

Rain shortened the Riverside Lady Rebels tournament to just Saturday. The team started with a 10-0 victory over Chalmette and closed with a 7-5 loss to Hahnville.

Riverside got 13 hits against Chalmette and 16 against the Tigers. Lexi Johnson hit a 2-run home run against Hahnville and went 5 for 8 on the day.

Toni Perrin went 7 for 8 on the day — 4 for 4 against Hahnville and 3 for 4 against Chalmette — with five runs scored. Cheyenne Triche held the Owls to two hits and gave up nine to the Tigers.

On Monday, the Rebels beat West St. John 16-0.

Maegan Hymel pitched a no-hitter while the Lady Rebels pounded 10 hits.
