RESERVE — St. Charles Catholic softball coach Ty Monica knew going into Thursday’s game against Riverside that the Lady Rebels could hit the ball hard and far.

There just wasn’t a whole lot he could do to stop it.

The Riverside team hit four home runs, including back-to-back shots in the third inning, to take a 13-0, 5-inning victory and avenge its earlier loss to its arch-rival.

Toni Perrin and Janie Milioto hit back-to-back homers in the third inning, with Perrin driving in three runs to put Riverside ahead 8-0. Milioto’s shot to left center field, where a bunch of appreciative fans watched from their truck beds, scored only her.

She enjoyed it so much, in fact, that she hit another one in her next at-bat in the fourth inning, this time driving in 3 runs.

“It felt great,” she said. “I’ve never done that before.”

She had hit home runs before; however, as had the entire Riverside team.  After Thursday the Lady Rebels had a total of 29, Perrin leading the way with eight. Milioto has hit six.

“Just a lot of work in the cages,” Milioto said.

Riverside coach Tamara Regalo said her team is just hitting the ball hard.

The Rebels hit three home runs in their earlier 11-6 loss to the Comets. They hit five Monday against Vandebilt.

“They’re just seeing the ball really, really well,” Regalo said.

Riverside pitcher Cheyenne Triche also avenged her earlier loss to the Comets Thursday by pitching a shutout. She gave up three hits and walked two.

“I think I let the whole rivalry thing get to me last time,” Triche said. “I came out a lot more confident. I’m a lot more relaxed in a 13-0 game than a 1-0 game.”

St. Charles tried to stop the Rebels with four different pitchers, but Riverside pounded 12 hits, six for extra bases.

“You know they’re going to get their swings in,” Monica said. “We have to do our job and not let them and get every out we can.”
