LAPLACE – Area Catholic schools, including Ascension of our Lord, St. Joan of Arc and St. Charles Catholic, celebrated this week as Holy Week with special observances and Living Way of the Cross demonstrations.

SCC’s Director of Institutional and Instructional Advancement Dr. Courtney Millet explained the Living Way of the Cross seeks to present an account of the Passion of Jesus Christ that is authentic to the Gospel and to the traditional Way of the Cross prayed in Catholic churches throughout the world. She said the enactors silently present the events of the Passion as passages from the Gospels are read to the student body.

Ascension of Our Lord students in Lisa LeBlanc and Emily Gurdian’s kindergarten classes presented the Living Way of the Cross to the entire student body on Holy Thursday. The kindergarten teachers, along with religion teacher Cathy Abbate, began teaching students the stations on Ash Wednesday, and each day the children learned a new station until they had learned all 15 stations.

St. Joan of Arc students presented the Living Stations of the Cross on April 11 and April 16 at the school and yesterday at St. Hubert Church in Garyville.

SCC’s Retreat Team, made up of seniors, presented the Living Way of the Cross to the entire student body on Holy Thursday in the SCC gym. Senior Lauren Jaubert said the team had been practicing for about a week leading up to the event.
