LUTCHER — The St. James Parish Relay for Life, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. April 16 at Lutcher Park, is Disney-themed with “Relaying for more happily ever afters” promising a day and night of fun for all ages.

This year’s event, which will be decked out in Disney, offers several activities for survivors, adults and children. Survivors will be honored during a ceremony and special lap around the track — in addition to receiving several goodies.

Adults can watch the entertaining dance and cheer teams, relax and listen to a line-up of hit bands and choose to participate in a car show or washerboard tournament. Children can also enjoy a bounce house, photo booth, face painting and carnival games.

In addition to an activity-packed schedule, no one should leave the event hungry.

Whether coming for lunch, dinner or both, attendees will be treated to crawfish bisque, steak dinners, shrimp and crawfish fettuccini, jambalaya, pastalaya, shrimp stew, gumbo, tacos, fried fish, hot dogs, French fries, boiled crawfish and shrimp pasta salad.

To satisfy the sweet tooth, booths will also offer funnel cakes, ice-cream, beignets, homemade sweets, cakes, candy and fudge.

As always, organizers invite the community to come together for a memorial slideshow and beautiful luminaria ceremony that represents the reason so many continue to fight for a cure. An official schedule of activities and menu will be published closer to the event.

The first local Relay for Life was held in 2000 and since its inception, the St. James Parish community has come together to earn more than $1 million to support the American Cancer Society.
