DES ALLEMANDS — A St. Charles Parish man died following a violent wreck this week that sent three others to the hospital.
Louisiana State Police Troop B Spokeswoman Melissa Matey said 88-year-old Alfred Tregre of Des Allemands died Wednesday as the result injuries sustained in the two-vehicle wreck.
No arrests or citations were issued, and authorities said initial investigation revealed Alfred Tregre’s failure to yield caused the collision.
Alfred Tregre was driving a 2007 Honda Accord at approximately 3:30 p.m. when he was stopped on Carlon Drive at U.S. 90. in Des Allemands. Preliminary investigation indicated the Honda entered the intersection in an attempt to turn east on U.S. 90 when a 2014 Ford Mustang, driven by 18-year-old Christian Sontoyo of Raceland, struck the Honda’s driver’s side.
Alfred Tregre was pronounced dead on the scene, Matey said.
Sontoyo was taken to St. Charles General Hospital, along with an 11-year-old front seat passenger — both suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
The front seat passenger in the Honda, 81-year-old Fannie Tregre, was taken to Ochsner Main Campus with moderate injuries.
Matey said all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
“Impairment is not suspected; however, toxicology results are pending an autopsy on (Alfred) Tregre,” Matey said. “The crash remains under investigation.”
