Severe weather could impact St. John Parish today

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish may experience severe weather moving across the area between 2 and 8 p.m. today (Feb. 23).
Rainfall amounts of one to two inches are predicted with locally higher amounts possible. The main threats associated with the severe system are strong, damaging winds, large hail and possible isolated tornadoes. A Wind Advisory is expected to be issued for the region.
St. John Parish officials said Public Works and Utilities crew members are making preparations and checking systems throughout the Parish.
Residents are encouraged to assist with making preparations for severe weather including:
Removing any debris from catch basins and storm drains at homes and businesses.
Avoiding placing debris in ditches, drainage canals and on side of the road.
Clearing yard of loose limbs and debris during breaks in rainfall.
Residents should also report any emergencies, including street flooding, and all weather related concerns by dialing 911.
The threat of severe weather is expected to diminish after 8 p.m. Tuesday but light rainfall is predicted through Wednesday.
Public Safety staff are monitoring weather forecasts for any changes and receiving updates from the National Weather Service.
