LULING – For the second consecutive year, the St. Charles Parish Public School District has been ranked as a top-10 school district in the 10th annual Digital School Districts Survey by the Center for Digital Education and the National School Boards Association.

The survey showcases exemplary school boards’ and districts’ use of technology to govern the district, communicate with students, parents and the community and to improve district operations.

“This is an outstanding honor for the school system, our technology department and all those involved with implementing the latest technology in our school system,” said Felecia Gomez-Walker, superintendent of St. Charles Parish Public Schools. “It is evidence of the School Board and school system’s commitment to ensuring that our district is on the cutting edge of technology and that our students have access to the latest and greatest technology available.”

Walker said technology is a driving force in today’s world and this ranking shows that the St. Charles Parish School District is a technology leader in the nation. She added that the district is very proud to have received this recognition and that they share this honor with the community.

Colleen Charles, director of instruction technology for the St. Charles Parish school district, said the top-10 rankings are awarded to school boards/districts that most fully implement technology benchmarks in the evolution of digital education, as represented in the survey questions. St. Charles Parish was ranked as the ninth top district in the country in the category of mid-sized population districts and was the only district in Louisiana to be recognized.

Charles said the district uses the survey “as a guiding tool and benchmark to see what new things we should be doing and how we can better use technology to conduct business.”
