LAPLACE — With the second round of District 7-5 play looming, East St. John picked up a much needed victory at Terrebonne Saturday, winning 11-5 on the back of a strong offensive effort.

East St. John collected 13 hits, led by Phil Adams and Derrick Johnson, each of whom had three.

“We started hot and stayed hot,” said East St. John coach Shan Williams. 

“When we start really fast you like to keep it going and that’s what happened. We’d go on and match or exceed what we did in the last inning.”

Ryan Foster earned the win for ESJ (4-17, 2-4), going six innings and allowing nine hits while striking out two. Amani Martin closed, pitching the final inning.

“He kept their hitters off balance. He was getting a lot of pop-up outs,” said Williams. “It was a nice performance.”

Terrebonne (13-8, 3-3) had won five of their last seven games entering Saturday’s contest. 

“They’ve been one of the better teams in our district this year, so this was a pretty big win for us,” said Williams. “We’ve played up or down to the level of our competition in most games, and this time we brought our ‘A game’.”

THIBODAUX 8, EAST ST. JOHN 5 — East St. John fell to Thibodaux last Thursday after a first inning that saw the Tigers score four unearned runs. 

“The slow start bit us,” said Williams. “We gave away four runs at the start and went on to leave a lot of runners on base.”

East St. John collected eight hits in the game but committed five errors. 

Adams and Chase Henderson each finished with two hits for ESJ. 

Don Creecy took the loss for ESJ, going 4.1 innings. 

East St. John returns to district action Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at home against South Lafourche.
