LAPLACE — A local teen was shot multiple times in the legs Saturday while walking with his stepbrother and another individual.
Deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded at 8:45 p.m. to the intersection of Greenwood Drive and Iberville Street in LaPlace following a shooting report. When they arrived, they found an 18-year-old male victim hiding next to a residence.
“The victim was actually hiding behind some trash cans,” Sgt. Dane Clement said. “I’m not sure whose house it was. Deputies have yet to determine a motive, and without having a motive, we don’t know if he was targeted.”
Clement did say the shooting was not a drive by.
“They were actually confronted,” he said. “We had three victims and three perpetrators. The 18 year-old was with his 15-year-old stepbrother. I don’t have information on the third victim. It was just determined trough the investigation that there was a third victim.”
The 18-year-old was the only victim who sustained injuries — he suffered multiple gunshots wounds to both of his legs.
“Detectives have not determined if the victim had a weapon or not,” Clement said. “He is cooperating with detectives. They have spoken with him since the incident. He didn’t know the perpetrators, and we don’t have any suspects yet.”
Clement said it has not been determined if one or multiple perpetrators shot the victim.
The 18-year-old was taken to a New Orleans-area hospital for treatment and his current condition is unknown.
