Keller: Don’t let anger control you

One of the seven deadly sins is anger.
Jesus says to be angry, but sin not. In other words, anger is a normal reaction. Anger is not the sin; it’s how you react to it.
One day, after feeling good about apologizing to someone I had offended, I told Jeanne, “I’m getting good at apologizing!”
She agreed with me and said that was because I offend many people and get a lot of practice.
Since then, I’ve gotten better at controlling my anger.
Tuesday morning, I had a good attitude until someone at a Bible sharing meeting said, “Drew Brees is a holy man. The reason is because God wanted him to get his 400th touchdown pass and for the Saints to win the game.”
It amazes me that many people think God is interested in a football game.
How ridiculous!
However, I know He is interested in every player and all the fans.
After the meeting, I thought I had forgotten about it until I went to PJ’s Coffee Shop. Three ladies, who are always nice to me, tested me with the Saints and Drew Brees.
I lost it and was really ugly. I allowed my anger to control me.
After they left, I knew I had blown it. I repented to God and made a commitment to apologize to the ladies the next time I see them.
God has a way of sending you what you need when you need it most.
At 4:30 Thursday morning, as I read my daily devotional, the message was: “Don’t sin by letting anger control you.”
The first sentence was: Uncontrolled anger is like jumping into your car, gunning the engine and discovering too late that the brakes don’t work.
Tuesday, I was like a car with no brakes!
