LAPLACE — The River Region Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee recently provided “stuffed bags” for more than 200 new teachers in St. James, St. John and St. Charles parishes.
The bags included an assortment of specialty items and gifts that are donated each year by chamber members and area businesses to support the academic endeavors of local school systems.
This year, the bags were filled with lunch bags, mugs, salad travel containers, coasters, car blankets, phone earplugs, rulers, pens, koozies and lapel pens. More than 20 area businesses donated items to support this effort.
The committee presented the bags at each of the three parishes’ new teacher orientations during July.
“Our teachers are an invaluable asset to our region, and they deserve to be recognized for their hard work and efforts to educate the future workforce of the River Region,” said Ronnie Slone, River Region Chamber of Commerce education chair.
“This is one of the ways that the education committee of the River Region Chamber of Commerce can celebrate the new teachers who join St. Charles, St. John and St. James parishes.”
