Matthew John Templet, 16, recently received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank achievable in Boy Scouts of America.

Troop 312 and their sponsor, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, along with family and friends celebrated his achievement in a Court of Honor. Templet is the son of Dwayne and Merin Templet of LaPlace.

Throughout his scouting career, which began 11 years ago as a Tiger Cub, Templet has demonstrated scouting is not an exclusive pursuit, but instead serves as a catalyst for success in other areas of life.

While climbing the ranks of scouting to Eagle, he excelled in his spiritual life, and as an athlete, student and musician. He is recognized as a strong, but quiet leader, choosing to let his actions impact those around him.

Templet has participated in the Mass as an Altar Server since third grade. He plays soccer year-round and has been the varsity goal keeper since entering St. Charles Catholic High School in eighth grade, gaining recognition with All District and All Parish honors.

At SCC, he is a member of the French Club, National Honor Society and Drum Corps. He has maintained a 3.7 GPA. This summer he attended the Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.) engineering camp, where he was one of only 40 students accepted nationwide.

He intends to stay active in Scouting and has plans to accompany Troop 312 in a High Adventure trip to Canada next summer.
