Arrest made in attempted rape of 15-year-old girl

LAPLACE – A suspect was arrested May 22 by the St. John Sheriff’s Officeand charged in the May 18 attempted forcible rape of a 15-year-old LaPlace girl.
Lt. Michael Tregre reported Kendall Jones, 17, 2600 Virginian ColonyDrive, was booked for burglary and attempted forcible rape.
The alleged victim said she and her 5-year-old sister were at home while their mother was out making a phone call.
She said she was in the kitchen and heard a noise in a bedroom, but investigated and found nothing. Upon returning to the kitchen, the dogbegan to bark and, this time, she confronted a male wearing a Starter jacket pulled over his face and black pants.
The intruder chased and caught the girl in her bedroom, punched her in the face and threatened her while trying to rape her.
The girl screamed for help, and the 5-year-old ran to a neighbor’s residence, authorities said. The neighbor looked outside, saw the attack inprogress and phoned 9-1-1.
