EDGARD – The Riverside boys, led by most valuable field and track performances by Rhett Vicknair and Armand Centanni, respectively, captured their first district title in three years at the District 9-2A meet held at West St. John Wednesday afternoon. The Rebels finished with 146 points, edging out West St. John whichfinished with 129 points. St. Charles Catholic was third with 85 points,followed by Ridgewood (80), St. Martin’s (64) and Ecole Classique (24).Vicknair won district titles in the javelin and discus with throws of 158 feet, 4 inches and 146-2 1/2, respectively. Centanni was a three-timewinner, placing first in the 800 meters in a time of two minutes, 14.41seconds; in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:01.64; and in the 3200 witha time of 11:15.59.West St. John’s Donovan Pierre had a career-best jump of 6-0 to win thehigh jump. St. Charles Catholic’s Maurice St. Pierre was third andRiverside’s Joel Levin was fourth to qualify for regionals in the event. Thetop four finishers in each event qualified for regionals to be hosted by West St. John Tuesday afternoon.West St. John’s Dehaven Duronslet had a season-best jump of 20-6 1/2 towin the long jump. Duronslet also qualified for regionals in the triplejump, placing second with a jump of 41-2 1/4 as he was narrowly beaten out by teammate Adair Alexander who had a leap of 41-4 3/4.

Levin and Ronnie Mason had third-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump, respectively, to qualify for regionals. Levin set a personalrecord with a jump of 20-1 3/4.

Riverside’s Justin Dunn won the district championship in the pole vault, clearing the bar at a personal-best 12-3. Teammate T.J. Sutton alsoqualified, placing third with a vault of 11-9, also a personal record.

Travis Bourgeois won the shot put with a throw of 48-0. St. CharlesCatholic’s Kenny Ordeneaux was second with a throw of 44-1/4, with Riverside’s Steven Gill also qualifying by placing fourth.

Bourgeois added a third place finish in the discus, followed by the Comets’ Tommy St. Pierre. Riverside’s Keith LeBlanc and St. Charles Catholic’sBryan Kliebert placed two-three in the javelin.

West St. John’s Rysean Brown had a season-best time of 52.36 to win thedistrict title in the 400-meter dash. Centanni was second, followed by theRams’ Leonard Schexnayder. Arlando Comminie won the high hurdles with atime of 15.78 with Brown coming in second at 16.73. Comminie and Brownalso helped the 800-meter relay team place first with a time of 1:33.60.West St. John’s Abrom Johnson ran a personal-best 23:17 to win the 200-meter dash. St. Charles Catholic’s Brian Horvath and Josh Schexnayderplaced three-four to qualify in the event.

Johnson helped the Rams’ 400-meter relay team set a season best time of 43.49 in winning the event over St. Charles Catholic. The Rams’ 1600-meter relay squad placed second to Riverside in the 1600 meters.

Other River Parishes qualifiers included St. Charles Catholic’s BlaineBillings, who placed second in the 1600-meter run. Josh Schexnayder wassecond in the 100-meter dash to Ryan Zimmerson of Ridgewood. West St.John’s Schexnayder and Jamar Bailey finished three-four. Riverside’s MikeSparcella qualified in the 800-meter run by placing second to Centanni.

And St. Charles Catholic’s Mike Donnelly placed third in the 3200-meterrun to qualify in that event.

Scratch meets for regionals are scheduled to begin at noon. Field eventsfollow at 1 p.m. with the track competition slated to start at 3 p.m.
