RESERVE – Bonnabel’s Priscilla Hebert drove in three runs and picked up a save in relief of starter Christine Becnel as the Lady Bruins held on for a 10-6 victory over the East St. John Lady Cats Friday afternoon.The game was the season opener for both teams.

The Lady Cats trailed 9-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Yolanda Linton drew a walk from Becnel with one out. After Koi McGeesacrificed Linton to second, Crystal Loupe and Ashley Lambert walked to load the bases.

Becnel then issued her third straight walk to Amy Rebaldo, forcing in Linton. Tammy Gunter followed with a grounder to shortstop Myndi Rajo,whose throw sailed past first, allowing Loupe and Lambert to come into score and cutting the deficit to 9-6.

Jasmin Green followed with the fifth walk of the inning to reload the bases. Hebert came in from third base to relieve Becnel and got JenniferWright to fly out to center to get out of the inning.

After the Lady Bruins added a run in the top of the seventh on a double by Becnel and an error, Linton reached on an error and McGee drew a walk from Hebert with one out in the bottom of the inning. Hebert then gotLoupe to ground back to her, throwing to third for the force out. AfterLambert singled to center to load the bases, Hebert struck out Rebaldo to end the game.

Wright, the Lady Cats’ starter, pitched shut out ball through the first two innings with the help of Loupe who threw out two runners attempting to steal. The Lady Cats were able to get on the scoreboard first as Gunter ledoff the bottom of the second with single to center and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Wright followed with a single to left and stole second to put two runners in scoring position with one out. After Angelle Lambert struck out, Lintonlined a shot off Becnel’s leg. Becnel threw home but Gunter was able tobeat the throw, giving the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.

Bonnabel came back in the top of the third as Connie Frazier led off with a double into the left field corner and went to third on a wild pitch. AfterRajo popped up to third, Becnel singled to the left of Wright. Hebertfollowed with a drive to left that fell in front of a diving Green. Frazierscored and Becnel came in on the throw to second. Hebert scored on agroundout by Edna Gomez to give the Lady Bruins a 3-1 lead.

Loupe cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the inning by getting hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stealing second and third and scoring as the throw back to the pitcher sailed past Becnel.

Bonnabel bounced back in the top of the fourth as Brianna Rose reached on an error and was sacrificed to second by Bryanne Swicegood. StephanieWilborn followed with a single to left that got past Green, scoring Rose and sending Wilborn to second. Rajo then brought Wilborn home with asingle to center field to increase the Bonnabel lead to 5-2.

Bonnabel got another run in the top of the fifth on doubles by Amanda Rumore and Swicegood. East St. John got the run back in the bottom of theinning as Lambert walked and stole second and third. Rebaldo followedwith a walk and faked a steal, drawing a throw to second. Lambert came inon the throw, cutting the deficit to 6-3.

Bonnabel followed with a three-run sixth as Rajo led off with a single to left field and scored on a double down the third baseline by Hebert. Rumorefollowed with a single to score Hebert and came around to score on another single by Swicegood to make it 9-3.

Swicegood and Rumore each had three hits for the Lady Bruins. Wrightwould lead the Lady Cats with two hits in four trips to the plate.
