ST. JAMES – The St. James High Wildcats made it 10-1 last night, poundingout a 55-12 bi-district win over Cecilia. This makes it seven straightseasons in which the Wildcats won 10 or more games.

Chad Jasmin rushed 22 times for 244 yards and four touchdowns in his stellar evening. Corey Webster capped that with six carries for 51 yardsand three more touchdowns. Webster also completed four of six passes for57 yards.

Cecilia’s quarterback tossed out four interceptions, doing their cause no good, while Derrick Gros snared two of those four miscues for St. James.In the first quarter, Webster scored on a 37-yard run, boosted by a point- after kick by Alvin Bartholomew. Later in the same period, Jasmin drewblood with his 5-yard run (PAT failed) and again on a 1-yard run (Webster’s 2-point conversion run successful) for a 21-0 lead.

Jasmin made the second period his own, with two more touchdowns, from one and two yards out, both capped by Bartholomew kicks, which made the halftime tally 35-0.

Jasmin and Webster split the honors in the third quarter, Jasmin scoring first on a crowd-thrilling 56-yard run (PAT by Bartholomew), then Webster on a 7-yard run (PAT by Bartholomew), which edged the tally up to 49-0.

By this time, the starters stood down and Cecilia was able to get some points on the board to avert a shutout. Hilton Johnson scored on a 4-yardrun, but the PAT failed, making it 49-6. Then Kendall Dartez snared anintersection and ran it back 65 yards for a happy memory for the Cecilia fans and a 49-12 tally. Then, St. James’s Byron Keller scored on a 4-yardrun to close out the evening’s devastation. The PAT kick failed but theWildcats were riding high on a 49-12 victory.

On the stat sheet, the devastation continued. St. James led 16-9 on firstdowns. The Wildcats rushed 45 times for 351 yards, and completed five ofnine passes for 83 yards for a whopping total offense of 434 yards.

Cecilia rushed 28 times for 96 yards, and Ty Guidry completed four of 20 passes for 83 yards for a total offense of 179 yards.

While St. James bore one interception in the fourth quarter, Ceciliasuffered four. Neither team lost a fumble, but St. James bobbled fourtimes, while Cecilia did so once. Finally, in penalties, St. James fouled 11times for 121 lost yards, while Cecilia was nabbed 10 times for 103 lost yards. To Cecilia’s credit, Lucas Sam rushed 11 times for 85 yards.Next Friday, St. James takes on Belle Chasse, who come off a 22-12 winover Kaplan.

Lutcher 21, Redemptorist 14 LUTCHER – The Lutcher High Bulldogs nipped their way past Redemptorist, 21-14, to advance in the state football playoffs. Next Friday, they take onBooker T. Washington, themselves having edged E.D. White, 21-18.The game looked at first like it belonged to the Redemptorist Wolves, however, with a fast 14-10 lead in the first quarter. The first score cameon the kickoff return, as the Wolves’ Shawn Lambert scrambled and rambled 90 yards for the opening score. Late in the period, with slightlymore than four minutes left on the clock, David Plaisance bulled 28 yards for the next touchdown. Two PAT kicks made the first quarter tally 14-0.In the second period, Lutcher woke up, and it was uphill all the way for the rest of the evening. T.R. Ricks lofted a 38-yard pass play to KennethJohnson for the score with 3:18 remaining in the half, sending the teams into halftime with a 14-7 edge for Redemptorist.

The third quarter belonged to the Bulldogs, as Johnson plowed 13 yards to score with 7:58 on the clock to tie the game 14-all. Then, it was Ricksagain, this on a 6-yard pass play to Damian Ursin with 3:35 remaining for the go-ahead score. Wayne Zimmer’s three PATs of the evening cappedscoring.

In the game statistics, Lutcher led on first downs 15-4. In rushing,Lutcher carried 39 times for 76 yards. In passing, Lutcher’s T.R. Rickscompleted 16 of 26 attempts for 175 yards and two interceptions. Thisgave the Bulldogs a total offensive yardage total of 251 for the evening.

Redemptorist rushed 29 times for 45 yards. In passing, the Wolvescompleted three of 13 attempts for 24 yards and two interceptions. Thisgave Redemptorist a meager 69 yards of total offense.

Lutcher fumbled three times and lost two, while Redemptorist fumbled twice but held on to the ball. In penalties, Lutcher was whiffed five timesfor 52 yards, while the Wolves were hit seven times for 60 yards.

Individually, Damian Ursin led rushing with 17 carries for 42 yards, while Wesley Louque carried nine times for 27 yards.

Kenneth Johnson had a good evening, picking off six pass receptions for 101 yards, the longest his 38-yard TD snare. Finally, Bernard Riley andJames Williams each scooped up an interception to their tallies.
