RESERVE – The Riverside Rebels put an exclamation mark on their claim to yet another district title Friday night as the pounded the Ridgewood Eagles into submission at Rebel Stadium Friday night, 48-14.

Riverside improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in District 9-2A, clinching at least a tie for the district title. Ridgewood fell to 5-2 overall and 1-1 indistrict play.

It only took a few plays until championship spirit became even evident.

The first 10 minutes of the first quater look more like two fighters standing toe-to-toe waiting for the other to blink.

At the 2:19 mark, Ridgewood did just that, as from 41-yards away, Casey Remondet got a hand off from quarterback Joey Poirrier and powered his way over the right side for the first score of the game. The point after byKaleb Mayes was good and the Rebels never looked back from that point on.

With 10:17 left in the second quarter, Remondet took the game over. Itwas Remondet around the right side and Remdonet around the left side and in a span of two minutes. the ball was sitting at the Eagles’ 2-yard line.Joey Poirrier went right ona quaterback keeper for the score. The missedextra point made the score 13-0, Riverside.

Now it was the defense’s time to shine, allowing a poten Ridgewood rushing game 37 yards on 21carrie and two first downs. A defensive frontled by Sean Delaneuville, Rhett Vicknair, Blake Duhe, and Jason Hayes put pressure on Keith Champage all night along.

Riverside coach Mickey Roussel had much praise for his defense concerning their ability to adjust to the changing offensive scheme of Ridgewood.

With 30 seconds left in the half, Riverside took over at the Ridgewood 44- yard line. Aftera penalty moved the ball to the 36-yard, Poirrier foundKeith Leblanc wide open at the 18-yard line. Leblanc coasted in untouchedfor the score to give teh Rebels a 19-0 lead.

Ridgewood recovered Riverside’s onside kick with 19 seconds left and tried the old hook-and-ladder play. Champagne completed a pass to TreyTaylor on a hook pattern in the middle for 35 yards.

Taylor latteraled the ball back to Jason Keyes who plowed his way to Riverside’s 13 yard line with no time on the clock. One second was putback on the clock, allowing Jonathan Ruffin to attempt a field that sailed wide.

The second half saw Remondet continue to run wild as he gained 157 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries.

With eight minutes left in the third, Remdondet scored from 4 yards out.

Remondet added another score a 6-yard run.

At the 2:35 mark, Remondet went on a 68-yard romp to the Ridgewood 1- yard line with Poirrier taking it in to make the score 41-0 Britt Waguespack would later score for the Rebels final points.

Riverside hosts L.B. Landry next week in a non-district game. Ridgewoodplays another key District 9-2A game next week at West St. John.
