ST. JAMES – In a matchup of Top 5 teams, Crowley handed St. James itsfirst loss of the season, 27-16, Friday night at St. James Stadium.Crowley, ranked third in Class 4A, improved to 4-1 on the season. St.James, ranked second in Class 3A, fell to 4-1.

With 7:30 left in the first quarter, Nick Dugas connected with Murphy Reed on an 8-yard scoring strike. The kick was good, giving the Gents a 7-0lead.

St. James came storming back with a 17-yard touchdown run by ChadJasmin. Philip Jessie ran it in for the two-point conversion, giving theWildcats the lead, 8-7.

The Gents came back on their next possession as Dugas found Reed for a 60-yard touchdown. The try for two failed, but Crowley had grabbed a 13-8 lead.

Crowley increased that lead in the second quarter after a St. James punt.Dugas again went deep, this find finding Jeramie George for 65 yards and a score. Dugas then passed to Josh Hoffpauir for the two-point conversionas the Gents took a 21-8 lead into the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Reed scored on a 1-yard run. The kickfailed with Crowley having a 27-8 advantage. St. James came right backwith a 1-yard run by Jessie and a two-point conversion run by Corey Webster to make the final score, 27-16.

Dugas completed 7-of-10 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

George had four catches for 117 yards while Reed added two for 68 yards.

Reed also was the Gents’ leading rusher with 43 yards on 11 carries.

Jasmin led the Wildcats with 123 yards on 20 carries. Webster completed3-of-13 passes for 50 yards and also ran nine times for 30 yards. ReyWeber caught two passes for 27 yards.

St. James opens defense of its District 10-3A title Friday at Plaquemine.Crowley hosts Sam Houston in District 4-4A play.
