The first annual River Parishes Football Camp will be held at Riverside, July 7-9 from 9 a.m. until noon.The camp will feature a number of special guests including NFL players Billy Joe Hobert, Richard Cooper, Keith Poole and Brett Bech.
The camp is open to all residents of the parish ages 6-15. Participants areasked to bring football shoes, socks, supporter and T-shirt.
The cost of the camp is $60 which includes a camp T-shirt. For moreinformation call Riverside coach Keith Childress at 536-4251 or at 651- 6466.
The Brett LeMaire Annual Golf Classic will be held Saturday, July 17 at Fashion Golf & Country Club in Hahnville.
Tee off times are 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Flights. The classic is an 18-hole, 4-man scramble. The cost is $40 per player and includes green fees, cart,dinner, towel, prizes and beverages.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places. Closest to thehole, longest drive and door prizes will also be awarded.
All proceeds will fund a scholarship in Brett LeMaire’s name at Hahnville High School. The scholarship is presented to a Hahnville High Schoolsenior, who by the way he or she lives, demonstrated a courageous approach to life. The Brett LeMaire Memorial Scholar-ship is a four-yearaward of $500 per year.
Hole sponsors are needed along with as many teams as possible to make the tournament a success.

The St. Charles Catholic Comets Football Camp will be held forages 7-13 Tuesday, July 27 through Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to noon atthe high school.
The camp includes instruction at all positions, weight lifting, camp T- shirt, highlight films, Iron “Boy” contest, touch football games, skill tests, races and a punt, pass and kick contest.
The cost of the camp is $50. Registration will be held Monday, July 26,from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the St. Charles Catholic CometPlex. For moreinformation contact coach Frank Monica at 652-3029.
Ascension of Our Lord in LaPlace will be hosting a Great Britain Celtic Soccer Camp August 2-6 on the fields of AOL from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m.The camp will provide individual skills, understanding the game, passing, ball control and many other skills including tactics. The goal is to providefun while improving the game.
A half-day camp for boys and girls ages 9-12 will be held for $95 a player and a full-day camp for 11 year-olds and up will be held for $145 a player.
Drinks and a T-shirt will be provided. Participants are asked to bringwater bottles. Registration forms are available at the Ascension of OurLord rectory and the Summer Camp office.

Southwest Louisiana will be hosting the south’s largest open basketball tournament in Lake Charles August 7-8.
The event will be held between these venues: Washington-Marion High School, Lake Charles-Boston High School, Ray D. Molo Middle School andMLK Recreation Center.
The event will involve a men’s division at $180 per team and a women’s division at $150 per team. Participants are to be 18 years and older. Bothdivisions will qualify for Most Valuable Player and all-Tournament awards.
The men’s division will be awarded first to sixth place and the women’s division first to fourth place. The deadline for the entry fee is July 23.After the deadline there is a $50 late charge.
The Golf Classic will be held August 7 at Mallard Grove Golf Course. Theentry fee for this two-man scramble is $75 per person and is due by July 15. The fee takes care of cart fee, lunch and gift bags.As part of the tournament, the second annual Youth Drug Free Celebration Day will take place Aug. 7 in the Washington-Marion High Schoolgymnasium at 1 p.m. Mayor Willie Mount has agreed to play in a celebrityHORSE game with former Harlem Globetrotter Billy Ray Hobley. The NBA’sAnferney “Penny” Hardaway is also scheduled to appear.

The purpose of the showcase is to aid young players in their quest to play college or pro baseball. A staff of qualified college coaches and pro scoutswill conduct field testing and games. Each participant will receive anevaluation of their playing abilities and this information will be put in a catalog and sent to area colleges and pro organizations.
The showcase events are open to players freshmen through graduated seniors. The top players in each regional showcase will be invited to anational showcase at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 2-3, 1999.Regional sites in the area are Houston, Aug. 7-8; Tyler, Texas, Aug. 14-15;Dallas, Aug. 21-22; and Shreveport, Aug. 21-22.For more information contact Frank Dorner at (281) 469-6721.
Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.
Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.
The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.
Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
