As children, I think we all probably sang the words “liar, liar pants on fire” at least once. I believe that this shows that even when we wereyoung we recognized that we didn’t like to be lied to.
In the Bible, it says that God despises a lying tongue. So, no wonder, so dowe! Most of the time we would rather be told the truth, even if it hurts. Imean, let’s face it, no one wants to be played the fool. With this in mind, knowing that we don’t like being lied to, why do we lie? Have you ever heard the saying, “You become what you hate”? Is it true? When you lie do you use these excuses, “It’s only a little white lie; I just bent the truth a little.” The truth is we do it every day. We may lie about litte things, butregardless, a lie is a lie no matter what the size. But, I think the worstcase is when we lie to ourselves. Do we tell ourselves we are doing good, when we are actually in sin? I John 4:20 says, “If anyone says ,’l love God,’ yet hates his brother, he is a liar.” I know I definitely struggle with thisone.
How are you really supposed to be able to love everyone? God says He’ll never give us more than we can handle. I guess that means we can handleeven the really annoying people. I John 2:4 says, “The man who says ‘I knowhim,’ but does not know what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”Don’t lie to yourself. If you say you know God, then really know God. Knowwhat His commands for your life are and follow them. (Exodus 20:1-17).After all, He is the only one who cannot be lied to.
