Eagles’ McClain named all-State

BATON ROUGE – Eric McClain was recently rewarded for helping Reserve Christian to the Top 28 tournament this year by being named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class B all-State second team.
The junior guard led the Eagles with 15.9 points per game. ReserveChristian captured the District 13-B in its first year in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and became the first River Parishes team in 13 years to advance to the Top 28. Gibsland-Coleman defeated the Eaglesin the semifinals, 84-55.
Leading Gibsland-Coleman in that game was senior Bernard King, who was named the Class B boys MVP after leading the Bulldogs to the state title.
King averaged 28.7 points and 11.1 assists a game. King’s coach, OscarWilliams, was named the Coach of the Year.
Joining King on the first team was Pitkin’s Ben Thompson, Lacassine’s Dean Taylor, Kilbourne’s Mark Keith and Hornbeck’s Brandon Hodge. McClainwas joined on the second team by Lacassine’s Jody Singleton, Florien’s Brandon Horn, Doyle’s Larry Burgess and Spearsville’s Damien Smith.
Ashley Antony of state champion Anacoco was named the Class B girls’ MVP after averaging 31.7 points per game. Anacoco coach Hub Jordan was named the Coach of the Year.
