Browns reigning over Krewe of Lul

LULING – It’s all in the family for this year’s king and queen of Lul.

When Kermit and Pepper Brown reign over the 22nd annual Krewe of Lul parade, Kermit will be waving the scepter his father used in the same role almost two decades ago.

Lupton and Maggie Brown served as king and queen the traditional Luling parade in 1981. Eleven years later, Kermit’s sister and her husband, Lioneland Marcia Mae Troxler, were selected for the honor.

Kermit and Pepper (who keeps her real name Joyce a secret) Brown will celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary in May. The couple grew up in St.Charles Parish, both graduating from Hahnville High School.

Kermit has an associate degree in criminal justice and serves as chief investigator for the St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office. He is amember of the Knights of Columbus Council 2409 and the Federation of Police and enjoys fishing, hunting and golfing in his spare time.

Pepper, who is retired after 20 years as a construction secretary for Monsanto, is a member of the St. Charles Women’s Club and says she hasbecome a “professional shopper” since leaving the workforce.

Both are members of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling.The Browns have four children: Gwen Brown, Kevin Brown and Kay Bordelon, all of Luling, and Rhonda Jackson of Norco.

They also have one grandson, 3 step-granddaughters and 3 step-great- grandchildren.

Their grandson, Dayton Bordelon II, will be serving as their attendant when the Krewe of Lul parade rolls on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m.The Browns were presented Saturday during the Krewe of Lul’s dance.

During the parade, the couple will ride in a carriage and pass out scrolls imprinted with drawings of the old St. Charles Parish Courthouse and theold Hahnville High School.

“We’re really excited,” says Pepper Brown. “We think it’s a great honor tobe selected. The only problem I’m having is keeping a crown on my head.”Back to Top
