LAPLACE – Students at LaPlace Elementary School got some reading lessons from local celebrities this week as the school celebrated Celebrity Reading Day.

Celebrities participating in the event included Sen. Ron Landry, NewOrleans Zephyrs Director of Community Relations Aaron Lombard, St. JohnSheriff’s Office Public Information Director Lt. Michael Tregre and HaroldKeller, director of Get High on Life, Inc.

Guest readers were allowed to bring their own favorite children’s book to share with classes or read one provided by the school.

“We need to provide admirable role models who show that reading is fun and important in their lives,” Millet said.

The reading activities will culminate with a Family Reading Night on Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It’s part of the Read Across Americacelebration and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Dennis Woltering of WWL-TV will beguest reader.
