Noel helps Lady Bulldogs to win over Lady Comets

LAPLACE – Natalie Noel had 15 points to lead Ascension Catholic to a 50- 29 victory over short-handed St. Charles Catholic Monday night.Shelly Cayette added 12 points while Denise Can-cienne added 10 for the Lady Bulldogs (15-2).
St. Charles Catholic (8-15) was playing without Liz Dufresne, ShannonDolive, Sarah Weber and Melissa Billings, all out with injuries. The LadyComets were led by Lynda Simon with seven points. Amy Bourgeois andJennifer Pollet chipped in with six points apiece.
St. Charles Catholic tied the game at two with 5:30 left in the firstquarter on a jump shot by Pollet. Ascension Catholic then closed out thequarter on a 16-2 run. Cancienne opened the run with a jump shot from theleft side.
Noel added another jumper and then came up with a steal, taking it in to make it 10-2 before the Lady Comets used a timeout with 2:30 left.
Bourgeois bounced in a jump shot from the left side to cut the deficit to 10 before Noel banked in a jump shot and Cayette knocked one down in the lane to make it 18-4 going into the second quarter.
Marci Martin opened the second quarter with two jump shots from the right side. Pollet followed with another jumper before Noel answered bytaking a pass from Kadiee Martinez inside. Martinez hit a 3-pointer fromthe right arc and Cayette added a put back to make it 27-10.
Bourgeois banked in a jump shot from the free throw line but Noel came back with two free throws to make it 29-13 at halftime.
Ascension Catholic pulled out to a 35-13 lead early in the second half on a jump shot by Cancienne. The Lady Comets answered with jump shots byPollet and Abby Howard before the Lady Bulldogs came back with a jumper by Cayette and a layup by Noel to take a 39-17 lead with 3:33 left in the third quarter. A jump shot by Simon on the left baseline made it 43-19going into the fourth quarter.
A short jumper by Felicia Farlough and a jump shot by Bourgeois from the left side made it 44-23 midway through the fourth. Lindsey Francis andSarah Landry scored inside for Ascension Catholic to build the lead back to 25. Howard drilled two passes inside to Simon before taking a passherself from Pollet to make it 48-29 with 1:32 left.
“We have people playing in different roles than they are accustomed to,” St. Charles Catholic coach Jeff Montz said. “But they are hustling andgiving everything they have. I am proud of their effort and I am proud theyare staying together as a team. I believe by fighting through adversity itcan only help us later on.”The Lady Comets travel to Redeemer-Seton Friday.
