Lady Eagles sweep Riverside’s varsity, JV

RESERVE – Erin Daniels and Lacey English had nine points apiece to lead the Ridgewood junior varsity to a 36-16 victory at Riverside Wednesday night.

In the varsity game moved to an earlier time, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Rebels, 79-41, in the District 9-2A opener for both teams.

Ridgewood, ranked fourth in the state in Class 2A, improved to 17-8 overall. Riverside, ranked 15th, fell to 12-7.Ridgewood jumped out to a 23-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 36-15 at the half. The Lady Eagles were led by Jill Gallagher with 24points. Mindy Livaudais contributed 17 points while Robin Silverman added11.

Michelle Millet led all scorers with 27 points. Crystal Rome tossed in sixpoints while Ashley Bourgeois contributed four.

In the junior varsity game, Ridgewood jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a drive by English. Riverside came back to tie the game on jump shots by CandacePerret and Heather Montz.

Ridgewood went ahead for good on a drive by Devon Dunkin before Adrienne Albares hit a free throw to make it 6-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Ridgewood used a 12-0 run to pull away in the second quarter. English hada three-point play and Daniels put up a layup high off the glass to make it 18-5. Montz got the Lady Rebels back on the scoreboard with a bank shotwith 32 seconds left before Rachel Rand answered with a put back to make it 20-7 at the half.

Riverside opened the second half on a 8-2 run to pull to within seven.

Jessica Watts intercepted a pass at midcourt and drove in, then grabbed another steal with Albares scoring on the put back. After the Lady Rebelsregained possession on a held ball, Watts hit a jumper in the lane to make it 22-15 with two minutes left in the third quarter.

Watts’ basket would be the Lady Rebels’ last field goal of the game, however as Ridgewood closed with a 14-1 run. Daniels drove in and wasfouled, hitting the free throw for a three-point play to make it 27-16 at the end of the third quarter. Daniels scored on a put back and Dunkin putback a shot to give the Lady Eagles a 36-16 lead.

Rand added eight points and Chantel Schmidt six for the Lady Eagles. Montzled the Lady Rebels with six points. Watts and Albares chipped in withfour points apiece.
