LAPLACE – With the coming of the end of the year, Get High on Life Ministries founder Harold Keller wanted to find a way to give back to the community for what it had given to the ministry. He found his answer in abumper sticker – “Real Men Love Jesus.”That was the theme of the prayer breakfast Friday morning at the Holiday Inn in LaPlace that was attended by over 140 men from all walks of life from around the River Parishes.
“I thought it would be a good idea to get a group of men together and challenge them,” Keller said. “The community has been good to Get High onLife, and I wanted to give back to the community for what it has given to the ministry of Get High on Life.”After breakfast and a rendition of “Amazing Grace” by St. James Parishassessor Glenn Waguespack, the Rev. Neil Bernard of New Wine Ministriesled the opening prayer. Keller then listed some of the qualities of a realman, including one who does not use vulgar language, is not afraid to acknowledge Jesus in front of other men and who is involved with the community but not in a selfish way.
The guest speaker for the breakfast was Danny Louque of Quality Machine Works, who was recently named the small businessman of the region.
Louque noted that before one can become a real man, sometime in his lifetime he has to have a conversion.
Louque gave his testimony, saying it happened at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp at Black Mountain, S.C. At the camp he heard a speaker at anassembly where they placed the campers in the front and the parents and helpers in the back. He said the speaker’s words, while directed at thecampers, also affected him.
“His words went over the kids right to my heart,” Louque said. “I feltsomething changing. It was the highest time of my life. It turned my lifeto Jesus.”Louque also noted the turnout at the breakfast and said it said something positive for the area.
“There is nothing more special than a group of men getting together and sharing their witnesses,” Louque said.
