BUTLER DONALDSONVILLE – Alfred Butler Sr., 90, a native of Hahnville and aresident of Donaldsonville, died Dec. 22. He was the husband of the lateLouverda Batiste Butler and father of Mary Louise Knockum, Luverda Allen, John Allen, Shirley, Alfred Jr., Belle and Joseph Allen and the late L.J.Butler.

He was also the son of the late Joe and Mary Chatman Butler.

He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 30 in the chapel of Brazier-Watson Funeral Home,Donaldsonville, with interment at Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery,Donaldsonville.

FERNANDEZ LAPLACE – Gertrude S. Fernandez, 92, a native of Donner and resident ofLaPlace for 18 years, died Dec. 28. She was the wife of Arthur Fernandezand mother of Jane Faucheux and Arthur Jr., Richard and Thomas Fernandez.She was also the sister of Laura Frederic, Allen, Earl and Ulman Schexnaildre and the late Mae Hamersly, Ollie McSwain, Lillie Vaughn, Elva Robert and Ruth, E.F. and Robert Schexnaildre.She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 31 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home,LaPlace, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie.

GOINS NEW ORLEANS – Archangel Oubre Goins, 88, a native of Vacherie and resident of New Orleans for many years, died Dec. 25. She was the wife ofthe late August Goins Sr. and mother of Joyce Langie, Jane Wright, CeciliaBass, June Hazeur, Loisadel Clark, Paul, Mark and August Goins Jr. and thelate Archangel Hazeur.

She was also the daughter of the late Andrews Sr. and Nellie Oubre.She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 30 at St. David Catholic Church, New Orleans, withinterment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

HERKES KENNER – Warren John Herkes Jr., 44, a native of New Orleans, formerresident of Kenner and resident of Destrehan for 10 years, died Dec. 29. Hewas the husband of Rhonda Lee Herkes and father of Warren “Trey” III, Raymond and Alexis Herkes.

He was also the son of Marie Etta Sansom Herkes and the late Warren J.

Herkes Sr. and brother of Desiree Meree and Shawn Herkes.Services were held Dec. 30 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen & Son FuneralHome, Kenner, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

HILL PARADIS – Herman Louis “Drag” Hill, 42, a resident of Paradis, died Dec.

26. He was the husband of Jerralyn Comardelle Hill and father of DanielleRoss and Lorelle Comardelle.

He was also the son of Marion S. Hill and the late Joseph L. Hill Jr. andbrother of Josie Johnson, Cynthia Williams and Alton, Roland and Keith Hill.

Services were held Dec. 30 at First Baptist Church of Paradis, withinterment at the church cemetery.

LANDRY LULING – Caroline Cecile Montz Landry, 90, a native and resident of Hahnville, died Dec. 28. She was the wife of the late Eual J. Landry Sr. andmother of Linda Lee Zeringue, Donna Baudier and Lorraine, Robyn, Coy, Wayne Sr., Gregory and the late Lowell and Eual Landry Jr.She was also the daughter of the late Paul and Caroline Montz and sister of the late Anita Tierney, Ida Cross and Paul, Sidney and Matthew Montz.

She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 31 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Luling, withinterment at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.

McKINNEY RESERVE – Mary Ella McKinney, 52, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Dec. 28. She was the wife of Robert McKinney, mother of Charla Watkins,Chaundra Cambre and Chandrika McKinney and step-mother of Kenneth and Robert McKinney.

She was also the daughter of John Carter Sr. and the late Mary Carter andsister of Nancy Carter, Norma Jean Walker and Michael, David and John Carter.

She is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 31 at New Plymouth Rock Baptist Church, Reserve,with interment at Providence Cemetery, LaPlace.

MIRANDA NORCO – Joseph Anthony “Rock” Miranda, 70, a native of Montgomery, Ala.,and a resident of Norco, died Dec. 27. He was the husband of Audrey GuidryMiranda and father of Deborah Weber and Joseph “Tony” Jr., Dino andDennis Miranda.

He was also the son of the late Michael and Mary Rose Miranda and brother of Marie Johnson, Madeleine Robichaux and the late Sam Miranda.

He is also survived by six grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 30 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church,Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

MITCHELL NEW ORLEANS – Daniel Mitchell, 65, a native of Vacherie and resident of New Orleans for 50 years, died Dec. 23. He was the husband of DorothyMitchell and father of Denise Mitchell.

He was also the son of the late Anderson Sr. and Claudine Mitchell, stepsonof Irma Lee Mitchell and brother of Jacqueline Nicholas, Veronica Wenzy, Desi Marie Jupiter, Vanessa Napoleon, John Thomas, Shirley, Marva, Neida, Clarence, Wesley and Anderson Mitchell Jr. and the late Willie Mae Smithand Dianne, Harry and Joseph Mitchell.

Services were held Dec. 31 in the Chapel of the Roses of Charbonnet-LabatFuneral Home, New Orleans, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
