Rams close out season at home against Fisher

EDGARD – West St. John will look to carry momentum into the playoffs asthey host Fisher in the Rams’ season finale at the Sugar Dome Friday night.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.West St. John (6-2 overall, 3-2 in District 9-2A) has a bye in the finalweek of the season.

The Rams are coming off an impressive 54-8 victory against Redeemer- Seton in District 9-2A play last Friday. Quarterback Carl Gauthiercompleted 12 of his 14 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns and scored on a 2-yard run. Marlon Jackson caught two passes for 74 yards anda touchdown while Brian Lumar had two catches for 27 yards.

Norman Strickland had two touchdowns on the ground. Four Rams scored onthe ground as West St. John finished with 188 yards rushing.On the other hand, Redeemer-Seton could manage just 14 yards rushing.

Donald Allen passed for 123 yards but was intercepted three times.

Redeemer-Seton could manage just eight first downs overall.

Gauthier continues to lead the River Parishes in passing. The senior nowhas 115 completions in 185 attempts for 1,666 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Brian Lumar is also among the area leaders with 40 catches for 606 yards and five touchdowns.

Fisher (0-8 overall, 0-4 in District 9-2A) is coming off a 45-19 loss against Grace King. The loss dropped the Gators to 1-16 overall the last two seasons.

Duane Foret is in his first year as head coach at the school and has a relatively young team. The leading returning players on offense areseniors halfback Junius Chauvin, fullback Clayton Pizani and quarterback Robby Hunter. The defense is led by junior linebacker Jerry Victoriano andsophomore defensive tackle Nick Thibedaux.

Both lines are inexperienced. Seniors Chase Guidry at tackle and Ronald Dufrene at center lead the offensive line. Pizani is the lone senior on thedefensive line.

Senior tight end James Cauble and split end Shaun Higgins are the leading targets for Hunter. Higgins also leads the secondary along with safety Robbye Hunter.
