Lutcher’s homecoming spoiled by Assumption

LUTCHER – Assumption handed Lutcher its first loss of the season, 31-7, spoiling the Bulldogs’ Homecoming Friday night.
Assumption improved to 2-3 on the season while Lutcher fell to 4-1.
The Bulldogs won the toss and elected to receive the ball. Lutcher took theball at their own 49 and move the ball down the field with some nifty running from Damian Ursin and Chris Johnson. But after three first downsand the ball sitting on the Assumption 12-yard line, the Mustangs recovered a fumble on a bad exchange from Thomas Ricks to Jerron Wishom.
Lutcher took over at its 41 on its next possession and moved to the 28- yard line behind a 10-yard pass from Ricks to Kenneth Johnson and a run by Wishom. But the Bulldogs again fumbled with Assumption recovering atthe 28.
Lutcher quickly went back to work with a run by Johnson up the middle for 6 yards and a pass to Johnson for 23 yards and a first down at the 16-yard line. Ursin took it in from there and Risely St. Germain added the extrapoint to make the score 7-0 Lutcher at the 10:46 mark in the second quarter.
With the ball sitting at the Lutcher 12 and 27 seconds left till the half, Assumption’s Herbert Washington fired a touchdown pass. The extra pointwas missed, leaving the score 7-6 at the half.
Rudy August gave the Mustangs a 12-7 lead on a 26-yard run with 9:13 left in the third quarter. August would put the Mustangs on top 19-7 with 6:54left in the game on a 31-yard run.
After Assumption intercepted Ricks at the 2-yard line, August scored his third touchdown of the night from 47 yards out, going over the 200-yard mark rushing, to make it a 25-7 game. Assumption would tack on anotherscore with 43 seconds left to make it 31-7.
Lutcher opens District 9-3A play next Friday at St. Charles Catholic.
