Sen. Ronald J. “Ron” Landry of LaPlace, District 19, was among thelawmakers honored. As chairman of the Senate Committee onTransportation, Highways and Public Works, Landry has assisted municipalities with his efforts to improve and reform the Louisiana Public Bid Law. This year he successfully steered LMA-sponsoredlegislation which reorganizes the law to separate the provisions pertaining to the purchase of the materials and supplies from other provisions dealing with public works.
Landry came to LMA’s aid by eloquently arguing on the Senate floor against “sneak attack” amendment added to a noncontroversial House bill. Asamended by a narrow 19-15 vote, the bill grants an exemption from payment of local sales and use taxes on items purchased for subsequent lease or rental and hits local-government revenues to the tune of $20 million over the next four years in what LMA and others call an “election- year” gift for leasing and rental companies.Back to Top
