Riverside’s Leblanc heading to Faulkner

LAPLACE – Former Riverside multi-sport star Keith Leblanc will play at the next level after being asked to join the baseball team at Faulkner State College in Minette, Ala. recently.Riverside assistant baseball coach Rodney Fuhrmann and former Riverside assistant and current St. James head baseball coach Davey Clement calledFaulkner coach Wayne Lacker and arranged a try out for Leblanc. Leblancattended the try-out last week, fielding ground balls at shortstop, third base and second base. Leblanc was (See LEBLANC, Page 3C) also timed in the 60 and batted in the cage.

“It went good,” Leblanc said of the try-out.

Leblanc said he liked the school, located right outside of Mobile, because it was close to home and because it appears he will get a chance to play right away. Leblanc leaves for the school Aug. 15.Leblanc, who played center field for the Rebels but will probably play in the infield in college, batted .303 in 1998 with three home runs, 14 runsbatted in and six stolen bases in being named to the all-district team.

Leblanc, who also played football, basketball and track, was named Riverside’s Male Athlete of the Year for the second straight year in May.
