Vacherie company wins Lantern AwardL’Observateur / July 21, 1999VACHERIE – M. Rodrigue & Son of Vacherie was named a recipient of the 1999Lantern Award in a ceremony at the governor’s mansion. Zatarain’s was one ofeight manufacturing firms given the honor this year.

Firms are nominated by civic leaders, legislators, or business leaders from their respective communities for innovation in their fields, job creation, business expansion and growth and community involvement.
M. Rodrigue & Son is a manufacturer of structural steel fabrications for thechemical industry servicing clients in North America, South America, Asia and Europe.
“I’m a fourth-generation owner and we’re growing,” said Wayne Rodrigue. “Halfof our client base is in Louisiana and the other half is national,” Rodrigue said.
“These kinds of small businesses will be a part of Louisiana’s future,” said Kevin P. Reilly Sr., secretary of economic development, referring to the eightfirms who received the award.
Other Lantern Award winners are: Zatarain’s of Gretna, manufactures New Orleans style foods and seasonings; Elmer Candy Corporation of Ponchatoula, makes and distributes assorted candy and confection products; Datrex, Inc. ofKinder, manufacturers of marine safety equipment; CLECO Corp. of Pineville,generates electric energy and serves 238,000 customers in 63 communities; Webb Industries of Freirson, manufactures steel components fog agricultural and construction applications; Seapac, Inc. of Bastrop, a paper convertingfacility that processes paper and paperboard; Acadiana Plastics of New Iberia, manufactures plastic bottle caps and medicine vials.
