Donnaud leads Otto Candies to win

METAIRIE – Otto Candies stayed alive in the Second District East tournament with a 14-7 victory over Cretin Homes Thursday at Bonnabel High School.

Otto Candies (11-8) was eliminated Sunday by Superior Energy, 6-4, at Hahnville. Grace King-based Superior Energy (14-8) played Grillot Mondayfor the right to play Schaff Brothers in the championship game Tuesday.

In Thursday’s game, both teams went down in the first. In the top of thesecond, Otto Candies starting pitcher Erik Donnaud lined a single up the middle. An errant throw on a grounder back to the mound by Tommy Theriotadvanced courtesy runner Dustin Roussell to third.

After a walk by Jeff Williams loaded the bases, Roussell came in on a wild pitch. A walk by Tim Sirmon reloaded the bases with Williams scoring on apassed ball to make it 2-0.

In the top of the third, Brandon Kelly walked and stole second. With oneout, Donnaud reached on an error, scoring Kelly.

Another error on a grounder by Theriot scored Donnaud to make it 4-0.

Doubles by Matt Caire and Williams brought in two more runs, giving Otto Candies a 6-0 advantage.

Toby Jacob came in to pitch for Cretin Homes starter Dustin Braud in the top of the fourth. Kade Rogers opened the inning with a home run. ChrisHawkins followed with a walk with courtesy runner Brian Risinger scoring on a single by Roussell to make it 8-0.

Cretin Homes got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning on a home run to left by Jeremy Triche.

In the top of the fifth, Mike Picard singled through the box. Singles byKelly, Hawkins and Donnaud followed, scoring Picard and Kelly to increase the lead to 10-1.

Cretin Homes responded in the bottom of the inning as Johnny Juneau singled and Braud walked. Mike Mustian followed with another walk to loadthe bases.

Errors on grounders by Jesse Chauvin and Jason Gonzales then brought in Juneau and Braud to bring Cretin Homes to within 10-3.

Otto Candies added a run in the top of sixth as Sirmon singled to left and scored on a sacrifice fly by Picard.

Cretin Homes made it 11-7 in the bottom of the inning as Gonzales singled to left and Jason LaPorte walked. Mustian then reached on a fielder’schoice, scing Gonzales.

Two walks and a two-run single to right by Chauvin brought Cretin Homes to within four.

Otto Candies got three of the those runs back in the top of the seventh on a single by Kelly, a walk by Donnaud, a double by Theriot and a single by Caire.
