Lutcher state-bound again

IOWA – The players have changed, the head coach has changed, but one thing that has not changed in Lutcher – the Lady Bulldogs are going back to Alexandria.
Lutcher clinched its fifth straight appearance at the state softball tournament with a 11-0 victory at Iowa in the regional playoffs Friday afternoon.
Lutcher (21-11) will play Parkview Baptist in the quarterfinals Friday at 7 p.m.Carlie Humphries (24-5) struck out eight in the game and got the contest’s first hit with a single in the third inning. Humphries went to second on asacrifice by Lindsay Louque but was left stranded.
Amber Boe led off the fourth with a single and was sacrificed to second by Michelle Roussel. Iowa shortstop Lori Young was called for interference onthe play, allowing Boe to take third. Heather Morgan followed with a fly ball toleft, scoring Boe to give the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Iowa threatened in the fifth as Megan Carrier led off with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and reached third on a wild pitch. But Humphriesretired the Yellow Jackets without a run scoring.
The Lady Bulldogs broke the game open in the sixth. Kassie Waguespack beatout a bunt to open the inning. Toni Riley followed with a single right and Boebeat out another bunt to load the bases. Roussel then hit a fly ball to left.Waguespack scored on the sacrifice with Riley coming in on a throwing error to make it 3-0. Boe was out at the plate but Morgan kept the inning alive witha single to center.
After Morgan advanced to third, Breeze Vicknair reached on an error, scoring Morgan for a 4-0 lead. Tiffany Arceneaux walked and scored behindVicknair as Humphries reached third on a grounder to third. Ducy Taylor,running for Humphries, then scored on a wild pitch, expanding the lead to 7-0.
Lutcher added four more in the seventh. With one out, Riley walked and Boedelivered her third single of the game. Roussel followed with a double to left,plating Riley and Boe to make it 9-0. After a walk by Morgan, Vicknair singled,scoring Roussel. Taylor, running for Morgan, came in on a wild pitch tocomplete the scoring.
