Wildcats, RCS advance to regionals

ST. JAMES – Fifth-ranked St. James advanced to the Class 3A regionals witha 103-51 victory over Albany Friday night.

St. James (20-5) hosts Port Allen Friday at 7 p.m. Port Allen (19-10), theDistrict 7-3A champions, defeated Breaux Bridge, 71-60, Friday night.

Albany, the third place team out of District 8-3A, finished at 10-15.

St. James took a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and never lookedback. The Wildcats led 53-20 at halftime and 72-35 at the end of the thirdquarter.

Corey Webster led St. James with 26 points. Claudell Parker added 18 pointsand Joseph Christy 16. Steve Jones chipped in with 12 points. Chad Pendarvishad 17 points to lead Albany. Brandon Jackson added 10.

RESERVE CHRISTIAN 82, STARKEY 25

RESERVE – Reserve Christian jumped out to a 19-2 first quarter lead on its way to an 82-25 victory over Starkey Friday night in the Class B bi-district playoffs.

Reserve Christian (35-8) advances to play at Pleasant Hill in the regionals Friday at 7 p.m. Pleasant Hill, the District 4-B runner-up, is coming off a 57-42 victory at Bell City in bi-district. Starkey finished its season at 17-15.Eric McClain led the Eagles with 16 points. Aaron Vogel scored 13 points whileMatt McGee and Herman Mitchell chipped in with 10 apiece. Starkey was ledby Ryan Beebe with 13 points. Doug Watts added seven.

PONCHATOULA 43, HAHNVILLE 38 (OT)

BOUTTE – Ponchatoula ended Hahnville’s cinderella season with a 43-38 overtime victory Friday night in the bi-district playoffs.

Ponchatoula (20-7) advances to play Kennedy in the regionals Friday.

Hahnville, making its first playoff appearance since 1995, completed its season at 21-5.

The teams finished regulation tied at 31 but the Green Wave outscored the Tigers 12-7 in overtime. Jarvis Labee led Ponchatoula with 13 points. WillieCyprian added 12 and Damon Carter 10.

Hahnville was led by Dawan Landry with 10 points. Nick Cannon contributedeight and Alton Alexander six.

KENNEDY 66, EAST ST. JOHN 50

NEW ORLEANS – Wilfred Antoine scored a game-high 17 points as Kennedy knocked East St. John out of the bi-district playoffs Friday night with a 66-50 victory.

Kennedy will play Ponchatoula in the regional playoffs Friday. East St. Johnfinished its season at 17-12.

ST. BERNARD 81, LUTCHER 66

ST. BERNARD – Third-ranked St. Bernard held off a third quarter rally byLutcher for an 81-66 victory Friday night in the Class 3A bi-district playoffs.

St. Bernard (30-8) advances to the regional round where they will play atNotre Dame Friday. Lutcher, the seventh ranked team in the state, finishedits season at 18-11.

Lutcher pulled to within 54-50 at the end of the third quarter before St.

Bernard pulled away in the fourth quarter. Drionne Major led the Eagles with agame-high 35 points. Toddy Richard added 19 and Lionel Jackson 10. Lutcherwas led by Clarence Weber with 23 points. Brian Nicholas added 10 points andDonnie Francois 9.
