Wildcats advance to semis

NEW ORLEANS – St. James’ Corey Webster has signed to play football andbasketball at LSU next season.
But first, Webster and the Wildcats have a stop in Lafayette to make.
St. James advanced to the Top 28 Basketball Tournament for the first timesince 1987 with a 79-71 victory at Karr Friday night in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
The Wildcats (22-5) played Minden (36-6) last night in the semifinals in the CajunDome in Lafayette. Minden, the District 1-3A champions,advanced after a 55-52 victory over St. Louis in the quarterfinals Friday. Karr, the third-place team out of District 10-3A, finished its season at 19-15.
Webster scored 21 points in the second half and 34 in the game to lead all scorers. Joe Christy contributed 16 points inside and Justin Aubert 14.Claudell Parker added another 10 points for the Wildcats.
Jason Daniels led Karr with 19 points behind four 3-pointers.
St. James jumped out to a 12-9 lead after the first quarter and led 31-28at the break. The Wildcats took a 49-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
