LAPLACE – Country Day continues to be the main nemesis for St. CharlesCatholic.

Daniel Levy scored at the 15-minute mark of the second half, giving the Cajuns a 1-0 victory at Thomas Dupuy Stadium Wednesday night.

The victory clinched the District 8-III title for Country Day. A St. CharlesCatholic victory would have given the Comets their first district title.

The win was also the Cajuns’ fifth straight over the Comets over the last two years, including a win in the state playoffs last season.

The defenses had dominated the first half and the first 15 minutes of the second half when Stephen Millet worked the ball down the left sidelines and sent a pass over midfield to Levy. Levy broke behind the Comet defense, cutright into the box and angled a shot that got past a diving Kurt Biven into the right corner of the net.

Country Day nearly made it 2-0 two minutes later as Millet sent a free kick to Carson Riess. Riess lined a shot toward goal that was snared by Biven.The news continued to get worse for the Comets as leading scorer Allan Doubleday was injured in a collision at the 19-minute mark and did not return.

The Comets had another offensive threat, Jon Boucvalt, go down in another collision in the first half. Boucvalt returned later in the half.Elinus Noel moved in on goal at the 22-minute mark but had the ball kicked out Tim Kappel. Country Day took possession with Levy taking it in on goalbut Mihran Naljayan, who was selected as the Comets’ top defender, knocked it away.

St. Charles Catholic increased the pressure as Philip Hoffman put a free kickon goal that was grabbed by Country Day goal tender Daniel Casberque. Atthe 35-minute mark, Hoffman took a shot from the right side that crossed in front of the net. Daniel Babin took the ball on the left corner of the netbut had his shot deflected away.

Riess took control and passed to Millet on the left sidelines. Millet moved inand put a shot on with Biven going to his knees to make the save. After theComets regained possession, Hoffman centered a pass to Andrew Revall whose shot was grabbed by Casberque.

Millet took the clearing pass and moved in on the goal. Millet then tried a shotfrom the right that was deflected over the net by a leaping Biven.

With time winding down, Hoffman was fouled and given a penalty shot.

Hoffman sent the shot in but had it grabbed by Casberque. Revall then sent ashot in but Casberque leaped up to make the grab.

Country Day had the early scoring chances as Millet had a shot from the left side blocked by Naljayan. Levy then took a shot from inside the box thatsailed high. St. Charles Catholic then gained possession with Casberquegrabbing a kick by Revall from the left corner.

Millet moved in and tried a shot from outside the box on the Cajuns’ next trip down the field but had it roll wide right. A shot by Millet was then deflectedto Hunter Heumann but he had his shot sail high.

Naljayan would send a deep pass toward the Cajun net late in the half but Casberque was there to grab it in front of Doubleday. Another pass fromRevall to Doubleday was also grabbed by Casberque.
