St. Charles Parish leaders ready to lobby for wishes

HAHNVILLE – Wish lists have been prepared and members of the St. CharlesParish Council are prepared to lobby their state and federal delegations.
Councilmen G. “Ram” Ramchandran, Brian Fabre and Terry Authementattended the Police Jury Association conference Thursday and Friday in Alexandria.
The councilmen took a list of projects on which they are seeking state assistance from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and the local legislative delegation, Reps. Glenn Ansardi andGary Smith and Sen. Joel Chaisson II.Those projects include the following, approved at Monday’s meeting of the Parish Council: construct center turn lane on River Road in Destrehan, construct a new east-west road on the East Bank, construct a new north- south road paralleling Barton Avenue in Luling, construct a new entrance ramp for eastbound U.S. Highway 90 traffic coming off Interstate 310,widen Louisiana Highway 50 (Almedia Road), straighten the River Road curve at Louisiana Highway 628 in Montz, reslope the two railroad crossings of Louisiana Highway 628 in Montz, construct a north-south road to a Norco/I- 10 interchange at the East Guide Levee of the Bonnet Carre Spillway, make drainage improvements along U.S. Highway 90, conduct a study of the U.S.90/Louisiana Highway 52 (Paul Maillard Road) interchange, install more street lighting along U.S. Highways 90 and 61, extend the Earhart Expressway to I-310, add center turn lanes in Paradis and Des Allemands, add center turn lanes on River Road from I-310 to Sugarhouse Road in Luling and add a guardrail at the cemetery along Louisiana Highway 631 (Old Spanish Trail) in Des Allemands.
In addition, most of the Parish Council will attend the National Association of Counties (NACo) conference March 3-7 in Washington D.C. Attending areRamchandran, Fabre, April Black, Desmond Hilaire, Dee Abadie, Barry Minnich and Clayton “Snookie” Faucheux.
That wish list includes the following projects, on which the council members will lobby the Congressional delegation, including Congressman Billy Tauzin, Sen. John Breaux and Sen. Mary Landrieu: the hurricane protection levees onthe east and west banks, internal drainage concerns, assistance against expansion of New Orleans Airport into the parish, funding for the bicycle path projects, expansion of the East Bridge Park, funding for a recreation park near Davis Pond, implementation of the Bonnet Carre Spillway’s master development plan, funding for the computer mapping system and support for the FEMA grandfathering clause.
