Area recruits finalizing plans

LAPLACE – The clock is ticking down to National Signing Day and the recruiting process is beginning to really heat up. Local athletes arebeginning to take their visits and recruiters are making their final pitches.
One of the hottest recruits in the state is East St. John wide receiver RoyDel Williams. Williams visited Georgia Tech last weekend and wasscheduled to visit LSU this weekend.
Williams also has visits scheduled to Florida next weekend and to Tulane the weekend of Jan. 28 and has stated that he will make his decision onwhere he is going after he has taken all his visits.
Fellow Wildcat receiver Chris Bush is also being looked at by the Green Wave. Bush was scheduled to visit Tulane this weekend and has a visitscheduled to Louisiana-Lafayette next week. He will also Louisiana-Monroe on the 28th.
The quarterback getting the ball to Williams and Bush this season, Floyd Smith, will also be on the road this weekend, visiting Louisiana-Monroe.
Smith also has a visit scheduled to Nicholls State Jan. 28. Another local quarterback being hotly recruited is St. James’ CoreyWebster. Webster has already made visits to Massachusetts, Baylor andNebraska and is visiting LSU this weekend. He also has Tulane on his list. Webster, the leading scorer on the Wildcats’ basketball team, said he would like to play both sports in college.
“Every school has said I can play both as long as I keep my work up,” Webster said.
St. James tight end Alvin Bartholomew has also garnered a lot of interest.Bartholomew is looking at Nicholls State and Southern as well as Norfolk State and Kentucky State. Defensive tackle Brent Phillips and centerDamon Oubre are also looking with Oubre considering Nicholls State and McNeese State.
Lutcher running back Jerron Wishom has committed to Louisiana Tech.
Receiver Kenneth Johnson is also leaning to Louisiana Tech and is also considering Southern Mississippi, Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane, Southern and Louisiana-Monroe.
Quarterback Thomas Ricks is also considering Southern and Louisiana- Monroe as well as Nicholls State. Running back Damian Ursin has JacksonState, Grambling and Texas Southern under consideration.
Two local linemen were also being highly recruited. Riverside tackle JoeTrosclair visited Illinois in December and has a visit scheduled to Nicholls State next weekend.
Trosclair also got calls from Tennessee last week with McNeese State, Northwestern Louisiana and Nicholls State also expressing interest.
Destrehan’s Jeremy Parquet committed to Southern Mississippi last week but will also take a visit to Louisiana Tech Jan. 14. He also consideredLSU.
West St. John wide receiver Donriel Louis committed to the Tigers lastsummer.
Quarterback Carl Gauthier is being looked at by Tulane, Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
