Ivanov’s captures awards at meet

LAPLACE – Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy of LaPlace certainly showed flair at the Festival of Flairs held last weekend in Mandeville.
The team’s Level 5 group of Amanda Marrione, Julie Leto, Sarah Dune, Kristin Nielsen, Stephanie Alves, Olivia Carisella, Katie Trigre and Megan O’Quinn placed second in the team competition. The Level 8 team of OlgaIvanova, Katelyn Rodrigue and Yvette Triay also placed second in the team competition.
The team members also did well in the individual competitions. Carisellaplaced second in the all-around in the Level V competition with a score of 35.625. She placed second in the vault with a score of 9.175 and in thebars with a 9.35. She had a third-place finish in the floor program with an8.6 and sixth in balance Beam with an 8.5.Alves finished third in the all-around in Level 5 with a score of 35.125.She placed second in the vault with a 9.0 and in the floor program with an8.725. She also was third in the balance beams with a 9.05.Trigre finished fifth in the all-around in Level 5 with a score of 35.3. Thatscore included a third-place finish in the bars with a 9.25 and a fifthplace score of 8.85 in the floor program.Nielsen was fourth in the vault with an 8.85. And Dune was sixth in boththe bars with an 8.825 and in the floor program with an 8.3.In Level 8, Ivanova placed second in the all-around with a score of 35.775.She captured the title in the floor program with a 9.45. She also had thirdplace finishes in the vault with an 8.325 and in the balance beam with a9.125 and added a fourth place score of 8.875 in the bars. Rodrigue was also second in the all-around with a 35.05. She was theevent winner in the bars with a 9.075 and was second in the balance beamwith an 8.975. She also added a third in the vault with an 8.1 and a fifth inthe floor program with an 8.9.Triay was third overall in Level 8 with a 34.2. She placed first in the floorprogram with an 9.45 and was third in the bars with an 8.75. Her score of8.05 in the vault was good for fifth and she had a sixth-place score of7.95 in the balance beam.Stephanie Nagele placed first in the all-around in Level 4. With a score of34.475. That included a sixth-place finish in the vault with a score of8.05.Kelly McCloskey was second in the all-around with a 34.525. She wassecond in the bars with a 9.05 and fifth in the balance beam with a 9.325.Jamie Roussel placed third in the all-around with a 31.05 while ErinLoftus was fourth with a 32.3.Katie Verdin had a third-place score in the all-around in Level 2. She wasthird in both the floor program with a 9.05 and in the bars with a 9.575.Verdin also was sixth in the vault with a 9.4.Coti Roussel was fifth in the all-around in Level 2 with a combined score of 34.375. That included a first-place finish in the floor program with an8.675. Roussel also was fourth in the vault with an 8.6 and in the barswith a 9.4 and fifth in the balance beam with a 7.5.Danielle Kay was sixth in Level 6 in the floor exercises with a score of 9.05.The Festival of Flairs is one of the biggest meets in the state, including teams not only from Louisiana but also from Texas, Mississippi and Alabama.
“It was a big meet,” coach Larisa Ivanova said. “All of the best teams inthe state were there. We did really well.”Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy will next be heading to a meet in the Alario Center in February and to the state meet which is usually held in March.
