How many times have you wished that you were as smart, talented or athletic as someone else? Chances are people have envied your gifts, too. God has placed ineach of us talents. While you may not be the best athlete, you may be a goodartist or musician.

I am reminded of the parable of the three servants who were given talents, (which is a play on words because in the olden days that was money) according to their ability. To one he gave five talents, to another two and to another one. The manwith five talents put his money to work and gained five talents. Also, the man withtwo talents put his to work and gained two more, but the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole on the ground and hid his master’s money.

After some time, the ruler came back to the servants. He told the two men whohad doubled the earnings,” Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Come and shareyour master’s happiness!” The third man explained to his ruler that people had said he was a hard man, so as to not squander his talent, he dug a hole in the ground.

The ruler said,” You wicked, lazy servant…and throw that worthless servantoutside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”The point of this parable is that God has given us talents, and we should not sit on them and be lazy. If you don’t know what your talent is, find it, for you never knowwhen the Master is coming back.
