BELLE CHASSE – St. Charles Catholic combined a strong pitching performanceby Jason LaPorte with solid hitting to defeat Belle Chasse, 18-0, in the Class 3A bi-district playoffs Friday afternoon at Hebert Field.

St. Charles Catholic (16-14-1) played host to Redemptorist Tuesday in theregionals. Belle Chasse finished its season at 20-13.LaPorte pitched a two hitter for the Comets. He also hit a two-run home runin a five-run fourth inning. St. Charles Catholic opened the contest by scoringsix runs in the top of the first and closed it with a seven-run fifth.

Lutcher 17, Karr 3

LUTCHER – Lutcher pounded out 17 hits and took advantage of seven Karr errors to open the Class 3A playoffs with a 17-3 victory Friday afternoon.

Lutcher (24-3) played at Jeanerette Tuesday afternoon in the regional playoffs. Karr finished its season at 6-17.Rusty Crosslin got the win for the Bulldogs to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Crosslin also got two hits at the plate. Dustin Deslatte did the most damage,however, going 3-for-3 with six runs batted in. He tied the game at 1 in thebottom of the first with a double that scored Bo Louque. He drove in twomore runs with a double in the second inning and added a two-run triple in the third.

Lutcher broke the game wide open in that inning, scoring 10 runs to take a 16-3 lead. Corey Bourgeois and Scott Ocmond each had run scoring doublesand Risley St. Germain drove in two more with two singles.

Hahnville 28, Destrehan 9

DESTREHAN – It looked like a game right out of Coors Field at Destrehan Thursday as Hahnville and Destrehan combined for 28 hits, 37 runs and 11 home runs in the Tigers’ 28-9 victory in the District 7-5A first place playoff game.

Hahnville (21-6) clinched the first seed in the district and plays Mandeville at home tomorrow in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs. Destrehan (19-13) alsoplays at home against Carencro tomorrow. Both games begin at 4 p.m.Both teams scored in all five innings. Hahnville led 6-1 after the first inningand 11-4 after three. Destrehan closed to 11-8 in the top of the fourth butHahnville pulled away with a nine-run fourth. An eight-run fifth closed out thegame for the Tigers.

Eric Donnaud hit two home runs and drove in six runs in going 3-for-4 at the plate. Chris Hawkins also went deep twice and drove in four runs in going 2-for-3. Brandon Kelly went 3-for-3 with six RBIs, including a grand slam. MattCaire also homered and drove in four runs.

Randy Roth homered twice for Destrehan and drove in two runs. Jeff Vitranoalso homered twice and drove in three runs in going 3-for-3. Craig Naquinwent deep as well.

Brian Risinger got the win for the Tigers while Roth took the loss.

University 8, Riverside 7

BATON ROUGE – University scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to eliminate Riverside from the Class 2A bi-district playoffs, 8-7, Thursday afternoon.

University (21-9) advanced to the regionals where it hosted St. ThomasAquinas. Riverside finished at 14-13.Phillip Miller got the win for University while Gus Entremont took the loss for the Rebels.

Sean Delaneuville led Riverside at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Dustin Duhon added a hit and two RBIs. University was led by TravisLandry who went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Carter Hill, who also went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
