Is columnist a Castro dupe?

DEAR EDITOR: Lee Dresselhaus, in his column of May 3, said, “…the kid is back with hisfather, and that’s how it should be. Like it or not.”I, for one, do not like it, and I’ll tell you why. First of all, “the kid” is back withhis father in the same sense that a little Jewish tot would have been back with her mother after a failed escape attempt from a Nazi death camp or an East Berliner after being caught trying to bolt across the Wall.

“The kid” and father are under the complete control of Cuban communist agents, and as Cuban interests spokesman Luis Fernandez said, “He is a possession of the Cuban government.”People need to understand that Cuba today is a totalitarian state in which all people are owned by the government and are viewed simply as human resources to be used for the good of the state and its rulers.

The American relatives were never opposed to Elian being reunited with his father. But they knew that the father, while under control of Castro, couldnot speak or act independently.

The Clinton gang consistantly supported the gag effort and has never allowed the father to speak unless he was under the shadow of some DGI (Cuban secret police) goon.

I think that most Americans who approve of this raid in Miami don’t understand how socialist dictatorships work, because if they did, they would probably have a different opinion. I hope that Mr. Dresselhaus is taking thepro-Castro line out of a lack of understanding of the communist system and not because he approves of it or doesn’t care about it. We should care abouttotalitarianism because if we’re not careful, our country and the world for that matter, may slip under the control of an evil force.

Love live a free Cuba! Viva! Ronald J. Theriot Jr.LaPlace
