BARRE’ METAIRIE – Honora “Ray” Pierre Barr Sr., 83, a native of Wallace andresident of New Orleans, died April 28. He was the husband of Yolanda PochBarr and father of Marie B. Heller and Reldon and Honora “Ray” P. Barr Jr. He was also the son of the late Marie and Raoul Barr and brother of Carmen, Esther and the late Jean, Louis and Edme Barr.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 1 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, Metairie, with interment at Lake Lawn Park.
BROWN NEW ORLEANS – Benjamin Brown, 82, a native of St. Charles Parish and aresident of New Orleans, died April 27. He was the brother of Frances Smithand Lawrence and James Brown.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, NewOrleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park, New Orleans.
CORTEZ HARVE – Elmo J. Cortez Sr., 80, a native of Des Allemands and resident ofHarvey for many years, died April 29. He was the father of Sonny Cortez,Claudia Badeaux, Betty Leonard and Phyllis Blankenship.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 2 at Westside Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Westlawn Cemetery, Gretna.
GUILLOTLAPLACE – Wendelin “Windy” Stinson Guillot, 44, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace for the past 10 years, died April 27. She was the wife ofRonnie Guillot.
She was also the daughter of Irma Stinson and sister of Floyd, Al and Nathan Stinson and Cheryl Harris.
Services were held May 2 at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Metairie,with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.
HENDERSONBATON ROUGE – Gladys Heltz Henderson, 82, a native of Paulina and resident of Baton Rouge died April 27. She was the wife of the late Louis V.Henderson and mother of Wanda Hetzel, Gayle Ducote and Wayne and Douglas Henderson.
She was also the sister of Eunice May, Grace Roussel, Helen Lambert and Emile, Daniel and Nelson Heltz.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 29 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, withinterment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge.
MELANCONGRAMERCY – James A. Melancon Sr., a native and resident of Gramercy, diedApril 28. He was the husband of Elsie Melancon and father of CherylWaguespack, James Melancon Jr., Cynthia Deslatte and Ronald, Timmy Sr.and James Melancon Jr.
He was also the son of the late Lawrence and Agnes Melancon and brother of Lawrence Melancon Jr., Delores Didier, Thelma Marse, Gayle Ann Deroche andthe late Norma Lousteau.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, withentombment at St. Joseph Mausoleum, Paulina.
NORTHMETAIRIE – Marilyn Perrer Fahrig North, 67, a native and resident of St.
Charles Parish, died April 27. She was the wife of Barry North and mother ofDeborah Corrao, Chanda Burge, Rachel Brown and William, Jonathan, Jasper Jr. and Christian Fahrig III.She was also the sister of Cleveland N. “Sonny” Perrer Jr.She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 30 at First union Presbyterian Church, Luling.
RYANMETAIRIE – Vera Maddox Ryan, 81, a native of Oakdale, La. and resident ofMetairie for the past 45 years, died April 28. She was the mother ofKathleen Smith and Ronald Ryan.
She is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 1 at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.
THWEATTMETAIRIE – Frank A. “Jack” Thweatt, 69, a native of Grapevine, Texas andresident of LaPlace for the past nine years, died April 28. He was thehusband of Dorothy Thweatt and father of Mark and Lee Thweatt, Gail Bordelon and Peggy Sasso.
He was also the son of Peggy Thweatt.
He is also survived by one grandchild, six step-grandchildren and six step- great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 1 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Lake Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
