That’s one of the prices of success. We will likely deal with a newtelephone area code by late next summer, as the Louisiana Public Service Commission is due to vote on the matter today.
Public Service Commissioner Irma Dixon, in addressing the St. CharlesParish Council on Monday, laid the blame on the explosion of communications technology, where people have separate home, cellular and computer internet addresses.
That, coupled with the influx of population, especially in St. TammanyParish compounding the problem, means that residents in the River Parishes could have a new area code next year.
The good news? Long distance will stay the same. The bad news? Having todial more numbers will bother a lot of people.
That’s one of the prices of success. That doesn’t make it easier to dealwith.
