Lee receives national honors

WESSON, Miss. – Heading to the NJCAA Division III Men’s Golf Tournamentin Chautauqua, N.Y., in early June, LaPlace’s Paxton Lee was hoping to riseto the challenge.

Lee did just that, finishing with a score of 321 to finish 16th in the country. Lee tied for 15th but lost a scorecard playoff. That finish earned Lee, a sophomore at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Wesson, Miss., honorable mention All-American honors and qualified himfor next year’s National Championships. Lee had rounds of 81, 81, 81 and78 at the Chautauqua Golf Course.

Lee’s college roommate and teammate, Wesley Rogers of Natchez, placed second in the tournament, shooting rounds of 77, 79, 77 and 71 for a four- day total of 304. He was named a NJCAA Division III first team All-American.

The Copiah-Lincoln team was coached by Ronnie Ross, a former head professional at Belle Terre Country Club.

Lee, Rogers, Brice Caldwell and Wesley Musgrove were among five Mississippi qualifiers who competed as a region at the National Championships. The team captured the national championship in theRegional Division.

Lee had qualified for the National Championships with a third-place finish at the Mississippi State Championships in May. Lee finished with a two-day total of 162 at that tournament.
