Payne, Hennig win St. Charles crowns

DESTREHAN – Kimberly Ann Payne, a junior at Louisiana State University, is the 2000 St. Charles Parish Festival Queen.Payne, daughter of Tom and Sharon Payne of Norco, was crowned Saturday by St. Charles Parish President Albert Laque during the 42nd annual pageantheld at Destrehan High School.
A few minutes earlier, Shelley Catherine Hennig was crowned the 2000 St.
Charles Parish Fesival Teen Queen V. Hennig, an eighth-grader at St. CharlesBorromeo Catholic School, is the daughter of Glenn and Cathy Hennig of Destrehan.
The pageant featured a millenium theme and was the final event in the reigns of St. Charles Parish Festival Queen XLI Cheney Landry and St. Charles ParishFestival Teen Queen IV Candice Denoux.
Payne is the first queen to wear the pageant’s new millenium crown which depicts various scenes from St. Charles Parish. Laque donated the newcrown to the festival committee. It was designed by Chad Becnel.Payne, who also won the fashion award in the miss division, will spend the next year representing St. Charles Parish at various Louisiana fairs andfestivals. She will also compete in the state Sugar Queen pageant in NewIberia.
Courtney Tatman, daughter of Larry and Ann Tatman of Destrehan, was first runner-up in the miss division. Second runner-up was MandySchexnaydre, daughter of Bruce and Sally Schexnaydre of St. Rose. Tatmanis a freshman at LSU; Schexnaydre is a senior at Destrehan High School.
Alana Weber, daughter of Alan and Janell Weber of Destrehan and a senior at LSU, won the sweetness (congeniality) award and the photogenic award.
Other contestants in the miss division were Kacy Petit, daughter of Kenny and Wendy Petit of Luling; Sara Elizabeth Bergeron of Luling, daughter of Bryan Bergeron and Karen Bergeron; and Jacqueline Marie Bleakley, daughter of Cliff and Caroline Bleakley of Montz.
In the teen division, Dana Sampson was first runner-up, Telisha Orgeron was second runner-up and Sarah Sibley was third runner-up.
Sampson, daughter of Donnie and Johnnie Sampson of Luling, is a junior at Hahnville High School. Orgeron, daughter of Allen and Sheila Orgeron of DesAllemands, is also a junior at Hahnville High, and Sibley, daughter of Lenard and Theresa Sibley and Destrehan, is a junior at Destrehan High.
Amanda Guidry, daughter of Michael and Dawn Guidry of Destrehan and a freshman at Destrehan High, won the fashion award. Heather Loggins,daughter of Cory and Sandy Loggins of Des Allemands and a sophomore at Hahnville High, won the photogenic award, and Lacy Gendron, daughter of Clifford and Joh’anna Gendron of Destrehan and a junior at Destrehan High, won the sweetness award.
