NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Brett Bergeron of LaPlace had a second round 10-overpar 81 at the U.S. Junior Amateur Tuesday at the par 71 Ghost CreekCourse at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course.

Bergeron finished the two-round stroke play competition with a 166, missing the 64-player cut that came at 157. He had shot an 85 Monday on the WitchHollow Course.

Competition continued Wednesday with match play with the 18-hole match play final being held today.

Matthew Rosenfeld of Plano, Texas, led the competition after stroke play with a 68-70-138. Jay Choi of Cerritos, Calif., the first round leader, was ashot back with a 66-73-139. New Zealand’s Eddie Lee was third at 68-75-143.

Bergeron was coming off a victory at the Gulf States PGA Junior Tour’s Shreveport Open. Bergeron finished with a 2-under par 142 with a closinground 2-under 70. Jared Mayfield was three shots back at 1-over par 145. Michael Schoen of LaPlace placed eighth with an 8-over 152. Steve Luminaisof Reserve finished 25th overall with a 12-over 156. Destrehan’s Andre’Gros had a 175.

Bergeron had been tied with Nick Guidry of Abbeville and Chad Bailey of Shreveport after the first round with an even-par 72. Luminais was tied for16th with Haughton’s Jason Jenkins, Brandon’s (Miss.) Josh Martin,Lafayette’s Harrison Cuevas and Shreveport’s Tyler Trichell, five strokes back with a 5-over 77. Schoen was another shot back, tied for 21st withfour others with a 6-over 78. Gros had a 17-over 89 to tie for 80th with sixothers.

Bergeron also placed first in the 14-17 and 16-17 age divisions. Schoen tiedJosh Martin of Brandon, Miss., for fourth in the 16-17 division and forseventh in the 14-17. Luminais tied with six others for ninth in the 16-17sand for 18th in the 14-17s. Gros finished 40th in the 16-17 division.With the win, Bergeron took over the lead in the player of the year points race on the tour. He led the tour in points last season to capture the TommyMoore Award as the player of the year.
